Out There by bloknayrb Out There by bloknayrb
Textures from Google Earth, as well as [link] from :iconkleanthis: ~kleanthis .
Rest was brushed with a mouse and a trackpad because my tablet was in my bag and I was too lazy to take it out. This took like, a month.

And I have so much other shit that's more important than this, but whatever.

Entering this is the Unknown Moons contest.

Ok, bedtime.

EDIT: Ok, wow, not the best description ever. The Google Earth textures were used for the inhabited moon, and the other texture was used for the smaller large moon on the bottom left. Everything else was painted with the mouse/trackpad.

Much of the success of this piece (and by that I mean it not sucking) is due to the help of a few people from the #SpaceArt chat room. I don't remember everyone that helped, but if you comment/note me I'll most definitely add you onto this description.

I also have to thank Bear McCreary, whose Battlestar Galactica soundtracks blew my mind while I did this.

Also I made this huge, so wallpapers of just about any size are possible, if they are desired.

EDIT: Changed it. This version has a border, as well as more selective sharpening. It's also bigger. Yay!

Also, special thanks to =patrikarvidsson :iconpatrikarvidsson: (especially for reminding me wo was there), ~ChrisCold :iconchriscold: , and ~Zhachrod :iconzhachrod: for their input :)

Great perspective! Love the starfield! And the special colors with the effects on the planets is pretty nice! Gives it that amazing space feeling!

Uh it is in space... You making fun of me? JK nah but I mean most space art are just nice, but not all have that feeling where you actually feel there and makes you wonder what's out there.

rings are just perfect OO, in some places hardly done, in some a bit transparent - I like it bro'. meritum - it's very dynamic space scape, good use of bluring atmospheres makes the scene moving.

Why thank you! The rings are both my favorite and my least favorite part of the piece, their perspective is just all wrong, but I do like the glass-like look of them :)

Thanks for the fave!

That looks amazing, the gas giant looks beautiful. How'd you use Google Earth to get the texture for the moon, though?

I used parts of the deserts of Australia if I recall correctly. I took screenshots of the satellite images and stitched them together in Photoshop. It works pretty well.
Thanks!

Well I mostly use the airbrush and a tablet. I've seen people make crazy good artwork with MS Paint, so really it's all about practice. The longer you try, the better you'll get.

Thanks a lot!

The more I look at this, the more I really like it.

The rings are fantastically unique. The gas giant is incredible and the nebula is great. I take back my original comment, sir. This is brilliant.

Oh wow this is amazing... O.o''
I love the amount of detail this has it really looks so real and the color and contrast really makes it look real and fluid. It looks so much like a photo but you only used a few images right? Even if that's amazing..
Very well done. This should be more noticed, I can't believe something as colorful as this is not that much of noticed. D:

Thank you! I love to have bold colors and contrast in my work and very often people don't love it but you can't please everyone, right? Anyway I'm cool with it not getting attention, it has still gotten more than anything else I've posted so far, so that means I'm making progress ;)
Yes, I used a photograph for the large moon on the bottom left and I used a composite of a few google earth images for the inhabited moon.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks a lot!

That's true but even if for a painting with a mouse that's really amazing, I can't do anything near that with my tablet. <3
Ah ok, even if it all fits together well. <33
No probby dear <33
