I know I have been quite inactive the past month, alot of private stuff going on and upcoming exams, but I will try to be more active again from now on. Microsoft Employees Disrupt Wii U Best Buy EventsRemember how Nintendo was showcasing some of their E3 games at participating Best Buy stores around the country? Well, apparently Microsoft employees have been hired to go to these events and preach about the Xbox One and make comments like "why would you buy a outdated Wii U when the Xbox One is right around the corner?"
However, the employees aren't getting what they hoped for. Most customers just start bashing the Xbox One in response. Seriously, Microsoft, the people attending these Best Buy Wii U events are people who are intimately familiar with the crap you pulled at E3. They ain't takin' your shit.
At first I thought this might just be a case of one really loyal Microsoft employee taking matters into his own hands (especially since the original source was /v/), but reports have come in from numerous Best Buy's around the country that indicate many Microsoft employees have ambushed the demo lines trying to persuade people to switch to the Xbox One.

Don Mattrick just announced that Microsoft is back peddling with the XBOne, removing the disastrously awful features we've been bashing them for trying to inflict on us.
    Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)

There are two ways to write a novel.  Plotting (you make an outline, a plan, a roadmap if you will, and then you sit down and write it) and pantsing (you write "by the seat of your pants, throwing caution to the wind).  So when I get asked if I'm a plotter or a pantser, I'm all like er, uh, hold on, let me?  Pantser?  I think?  But I kind of, um, do planny things?
And it gets kind of awkward because in these inarticulate moments I have managed to confuse everyone including myself. And probably spilled a drink.
In recent discussions, however, I've had a bit of a revelation, silly as it is. I've realized that I -- like many writers -- am a plotter/pantser hybrid.  And perhaps what I'm doing is something we could call Pantsing Responsibly.  And, maybe, just maybe, I could share some of my responsible pantsing tips with other writers. Starting with paper notebooks.

The Used Game ParadigmOver the course of this past generation I've been watching the video game market react to the way it's been forced to deal with increasing changes. I've come out against used game sales and even written a journal about boycotting GameStop because (like most people at the time) I believed they were the root cause of all the problems the video game industry has. But that's something I don't believe now as intently as i did then. From where I sit, piracy and used games sales are a problem, but not in the way game companies want us to believe that they are.
Used games are a good thing for consumers. We get to try games out, and if we don't like what we see or finish it early, we trade it in and try another title instead. It's a very good system for us since video game rentals are much harder to come by. Most video rental stores in America have gone extinct and outside specific Red Box Kiosks there aren't a lot of places for consumers to rent video games. The exception, of course, being thr

SPIKE updatesJust thought I'd share with you guys some updates on the progress of finishing my "SPIKE" novel.
A lot of people have asked me how it's going, when it will be published and stuff. I really appreciate getting asked these things because it shows that people are actually interested in my writings, and that it just such a great feeling :aww:

I think you should, more practice, although those artworks have great atmosphere which you are good at and I like it. I find that you have a good eye for art and your unique style shows this. Also, I still have a month or so left of my summer before I have to start University, I will be doing a new course as Animation didn't quite work out for me, not the 3D half of it anyway, I got very high grades in 2D though, but as you know the industry doesn't want 2D animators.

Of course, I have been melting like everyone else in this heat, even though the UK is far from being hot as the east coast of the US or other counties further south.

not to sound generic here, but summer sucks. i had to buy a huge air conditioner to stay alive, otherwise it's the same as outside.

Well the heat I can do without, I prefer somewhat cooler weather. Still, even though I was working this summer I still felt somehow more free than during the year. Not having schoolwork was probably a factor :P

yeah i guess,
i was skipping college for the past 4 years and only went to exams so that was never a big difference to me

btw, i tend to look at my old stuff a lot as well, kinda odd. it's probably some sort of subconscious analysis or just a symptom or alzheimers

Haha I don't know. It scares me sometimes to see how long ago I submitted some pieces. I'm scrolling and scrolling, wondering where one is and then I realize I submitted it two years ago and that I must be a bum.

Eh. I can't motivate myself as much as I used to. I seem to be getting slower at achieving the desired result I want when artists should be getting faster as they improve :p I feel like I can't bring myself to start a new piece if I'm gonna be spending most of the month working on it :yawn:

Summer is only over for the northern hemisphere. It's time for us in the southern hemisphere to have our turn now :nana:
